Statistical Mechanics of Ion Channels: There is no Life without Entropy

Abstract: Ion channels of biological membranes are interesting physical systems governed by the long-range Coulomb interactions. I shall discuss how the entropy of the dissociated salt solution facilitates the ion transport through the channels and makes them ion-selective.
