Vortex Lattices and Vortex Liquids in Atomic Bose Gases
Abstract: A fundamental characteristic of condensed Bose systems is their response to rotation. The formation of a lattice of quantized vortices is a dramatic manifestation of the superfluid response of helium-4. Ultra-cold atomic gases offer the chance to explore rotating Bose gases in very different parameter regimes (as compared to helium-4). I shall describe the new groundstates that can emerge in rotating atomic Bose gases: for contact interactions, and for more general interactions (dipolar, and Feshbach resonance).
